mtb icelandTHIS IS A FANTASTIC TOUR ADDRESSED TO WOMEN MOUNTAIN BIKERS WHO ARE READY TO JOIN A DEMANDING  ADVENTURE IN A REMOTE LANDSCAPE

  • DATES: 1 – 6 August 2021

  • PRICE: TBC

  • LEVEL: Challenging / Extreme

  • NIGHTS: Mountain huts

DAY 1 – THE LOCALS FAVORITE
We will pick you up (ready to ride) at your hotel around 9 AM. After a short stop at our office we drive about 2-hours along the south coast into the highlands. This trail used to be one of the local mountain bikers best kept secrets. Even though word about it has spread, it is still rather remote. We just love sharing it with our visitors! It begins by Iceland’s second-highest waterfall, Háifoss, that plunges 122m off the edge of a plateau. We end the ride by the ruins of “Stöng Farm” from the time of the settlement.
Ride: Distance 20 km
Elevation: Gain 470 m / loss -520 m

DAY 2 – THE VOLCANO DESERT
The ride of the day starts from our hut at the foot of Hekla, Iceland’s most active volcano. It passes along the edge of a moss-covered lava field and a black volcanic wasteland evoking the sense of being “lost in the wilderness.” It stretches through black desert sands before entering the amazing Dómadalur region. Our second night is spent in a charming hut owned by the farmers of the area.
Ride: Distance 15 km
Elevation: Gain 680 m / loss -680 m

DAY 3 – THE HIGHLANDS OASIS
The stunning area of Landmannalaugar, famous for its palette of pastel colored mountains is the home of the most epic single tracks trails in Iceland. The word “undulant” is probably the best one to explain what characterize the rides here. We will have multiple 100 – 300m climbs and some shorts hike-a-bike sections during the day. We will end the day by a soak in a warm natural pool.
Ride: Distance 42 km
Elevation: Gain 770 m / loss -770 m

DAY 4 – MOUNTAIN CROSSING
We start our day by a very steep climb up a double track called “Pokahryggur”. A name given by the local farmers that used to put a sand filled bags under the tires of their jeeps to manage to ride up the road. The climb is rewarded by a “undulant” descent on a remoted mountain road through a landscape of impressive hot natural springs. We will drop down into valleys and crossing few cold rivers before joining our comfortable mountain hut.
Ride: Distance 45 km
Elevation: Gain 790 m / loss -800 m

DAY 5 – THE BIG GREEN MOUNTAIN
We ride past Torfahlaup Canyon to find our way on a remote and breathtaking trail that leads to a hidden valley. Shredding around all day under the cone-shaped mountain Stórasúla. It is our last night together in the mountains, so it’s a fiesta with traditionally dressed whole leg of lamb that leaves nothing to be desired for gourmets.
Ride: Distance 38 km
Elevation: Gain 600 m / loss -740 m

DAY 6 – RIDE THROUGH A FOREST
Thorsmork is situated in a mythical place with birch trees and ravines surrounded by steep mountains. Some awesome and rather challenging single-tracks are waiting for us today via deep canyons, through a desert sand and lava fields.
About a two hours drive back to Reykjavík after our last ride, early enough to enjoy our evening and have a good group dinner in one of the city’s restaurants.
Ride: Distance 34 km
Elevation: Gain 820 m / loss -1060 m

There is always possibility of alterations to the itinerary, here above, as weather or terrain conditions dictate. This is for your own good to improve the trip quality and ensure that we choose the best ride that suits each day.
